JOHANNESBURG – The Portfolio Committee on Transport will conduct an oversight visit on Friday at the operations of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa or PRASA.

The committee will be joined by Gauteng and Joburg officials for a walkabout at Park Station and another at the Dunnotar Manufacturing Plant.
After years of alleged mismanagement and decline, commuter rail services in South Africa are showing some signs of recovery.
More passengers have been able to return and use rail lines that are usually cheaper.
And there’s been a threefold increase in numbers since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The current target of 186 million passengers by 2027 is only a portion of the 550 million passengers that rode PRASA trains in the financial year that ended in 2015.
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, Donald Selamolela discussed this with eNCA.
